This page explains what cookies and similar technologies AFFDigest uses. It describes what the site actually does today, not a generic list — if that changes, this page changes with it.
The short version
Browsing AFFDigest sets no cookies from us. We currently run no analytics, no advertising pixels and no cross-site tracking. Cookies appear only in the specific situations below.
1. Essential cookies
WordPress sets cookies only when you actively do something that needs them:
- Logging in — session and authentication cookies, so the site knows who you are. Only relevant to site staff.
- Submitting a review or comment — remembers your name and email so you need not retype them.
These are strictly necessary and cannot be switched off without breaking the feature they support.
2. Spam protection (Google reCAPTCHA)
Our contact and listing-submission forms use Google reCAPTCHA to block automated spam. When you load a page containing a form, reCAPTCHA is fetched from Google and may set its own cookies and collect device and usage signals to tell humans from bots.
This is processed by Google under its own privacy policy. It applies to form pages only, not to general browsing.
3. Third-party requests
Some resources load from other domains. These do not set advertising cookies, but the provider does receive your IP address as part of serving the request:
- Google Fonts — typefaces used across the site.
- Gravatar — avatar images alongside reviews, where one exists.
4. Affiliate links
When you click through to a network or program, that company may set its own cookies to attribute the referral. That happens on their site under their rules, and their cookie window is listed on our page for them where they publish it. We record the click on our own server to count outbound traffic; that log holds the destination, timestamp and coarse location, and is not used to build a profile of you.
5. Controlling cookies
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies in its settings. Blocking essential cookies will prevent logging in or submitting a review. Blocking reCAPTCHA will prevent our forms from being submitted, because the check cannot complete.
6. If we add analytics
We may add analytics in future to understand which listings are useful. If we do, we will update this page and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set.
